The Perfect Outdoor Barbecue Kitchen Design

An outdoor kitchen might be something you have not really thought about before but if you enjoy cooking and eating outside, it could be the ideal complement to your home. You will be able to cook mouthwatering meals and be right in the middle of the party when friends and family visit. Outdoor kitchens are useful as well as enjoyable.

Americans spent almost $150 billion remodeling their houses in 2005 and a third of this amount was spent on exterior areas. You can see already that outdoor kitchens are a hot trend! You might need to spend a few thousand dollars getting your outdoor kitchen up to scratch but it is an investment and will push the property of your home upwards if you ever decide to move. Before you hit the shops, here are some guidelines about outdoor kitchen design and putting your outdoor kitchen together.

Outdoor Kitchen Design

There are three basic outdoor kitchen designs, which are a L-shaped island, a basic island, and a U-shaped center. A L-shaped island has space for both cooking and preparation. A basic island features a sink, a grill, and a space for preparation. Basic islands tend to be small so if you are going to be cooking for more than a couple of people, you might want to consider another type. A U-shaped center has a grill in the middle and spaces on either side for preparation and serving. This is a handy design if you want to be able to serve food straight from the grill without leaving it.

Which Outdoor Kitchen Cabinets are Recommended?

Outdoor kitchens are exposed to water, sunlight, and extreme temperatures, so durable cabinet and worktop materials are best. Brick, marble, and granite are good materials to choose. Wood is highly flammable and rots easily, especially the untreated variety. Outdoor kitchens are meant to last for years so it is a good idea to invest in the best quality kitchen design you can afford.

Outdoor Kitchen Appliances

The grill is perhaps the most important item in your outdoor kitchen plans. You could get a charcoal grill or a gas grill. Charcoal grills flavor the food well but gas grills give superior temperature control. If your grill is going to be exposed to the elements, you will need a waterproof grill cover.

A kitchen island is another necessary feature in your outdoor kitchen plans. You can design your own or buy an island in one piece. Good materials to use in your outdoor kitchen design include stainless steel, stucco, and stone. An outdoor sink is useful and can draw from the house’s water supply or a portable water hose. You might want to add an outdoor refrigerator to your list of outdoor kitchen appliances although an outdoor refrigerator will have a maximum life span of five years because of the fluctuating temperatures it is exposed to quite often.

Building Your Own Outdoor Kitchen

The first thing you need to do, when thinking about outdoor kitchens, is to decide which type of kitchen will suit your purposes best. Think about whether you will want a movable or fixed outdoor kitchen, whether you will be eating outside or bringing the food in, your budget, the kind of grilling you will do and how many people you will be cooking for most often.

When you have a firm idea of what is required, you can either build your own outdoor kitchen or hire a contractor to help. Outdoor kitchens should be near the house so you can bring food in and out but not in an area where smoke will blow into the house or into the faces of your guests. Other safety precautions include making sure the grill is a comfortable thirty-six inches high and not using any flammable materials in your outdoor kitchen construction.

When you are ready to go, you can enjoy building your outdoor kitchen and be assured that family and friends will delight in your cookery for years to come!

    There are some good materials
out in the market place to build an outdoor kitchen.I found that using Nichi Panel and 20 gauge steel studs, the best,as they are fireproof, weather and termite resistant. They do not expand and contract, and if done wright will hold up to the elements very well.built this way, they are very strong, and you can add most any finish to it,stucco, stone or anything that will hold up outdoors.
